Research & Development

We live innovation

We have been developing and producing ultra-light helicopters with a coaxial rotor system for more than ten years. With success: we received type certification for our CoAX 600 in 2023.

Our motivation

When a hobby turns into a business idea: In 2008, Engelbert Dreiling, founder of Dreiling Maschinenbau GmbH, acquired his flying licence for ultralight aircraft. Since then, he has been pursuing the idea of developing his own, new type of air sports equipment that is simple in its overall design and also interesting for private pilots.

We have been producing ultra-light helicopters with a coaxial rotor system for more than ten years now – and are constantly developing them further. With success: we received type certification for our CoAX 600 in 2023.

However, we also pursue a wide range of research projects outside of CoAX with the support of sponsors such as the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and the Thüringer Aufbaubank.

Unsere Geschichte

2024 – 2026

AIDER (Artificial Intelligence in Disaster Relief) funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy (StMWi)

2022 – 2026

Research project TIGeR (Technology of Innovative Counter-rotating Rotors – Construction and Flight Tests), funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology

2021 – 2023

FlyHy research project (hydrogen-based drone with exchangeable carrier concept for different measurement and work instructions), funded by the Thüringer Aufbaubank

2020 – 2023

MIND research project (investigation of the coaxial rotor-specific phenomena prevailing on the tail boom and tail unit in the application case of an ultralight helicopter), funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology

2020 – 2023

Research project EASY (electromechanically controlled stabilisation system), funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection

2020 – 2021

CoAX 600 research project: The research project, funded by the Thüringer Aufbaubank, includes the development of the CoAX 600. This ultra-light helicopter, our second model, is characterized by a maximum take-off weight of 600 kg and takes lightweight construction technology to a new level.

2019 – 2023

Development of our second ultra-light helicopter, the CoAX600 with a take-off weight of 600 kg.

2019 – 2023

EPUCOR research project (electric primary control in unmanned coaxial rotor helicopters), funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology

2019 – 2022

ECHT research project (development of an electric CoAX helicopter trainer), funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology

2017 – 2018

Weight reduction research project, funded by the Thüringer Aufbaubank

2015 – 2018

CURoT research project (technology development for coaxial ultralight helicopters), funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology

2008 – 2017

Development of the first ultralight helicopter CoAX 2D with a take-off weight of 450 kg
