UL helicopter in the new 600-kilogram class

Our pride and joy is our CoAX 600, which heralds a new era in ultralight helicopters: modern, very solid – despite its lightweight construction – and innovative thanks to its coaxial rotor. After the German legislator raised the maximum take-off weight from 450 to 600 kilograms, we worked towards certification in this new class for our ultralight helicopter.

We developed the predecessor model, the CoAX 2D, accordingly and received German type certification for the CoAX 600 in the 600-kilogram class in 2023.

Another milestone in our company history!

Advantages of coaxial helicopters

The tail rotor on conventional helicopters generates a counter-torque to the main rotor. The coaxial main rotor concept of the CoAX 600 makes the tail rotor superfluous and eliminates the need for the pilot to control this disruptive force. This results in easier operation of the aircraft. At the same time, a significant source of danger is eliminated, which can lead to very serious injuries in the event of inattention.

The CoAX 600 also simply does not have a serious tail rotor failure scenario during flight. The lack of a tail rotor significantly increases operational safety on the ground and in flight. The entire engine power is available to drive the main rotor, as no power is required from the tail rotor. The main rotor therefore generates significantly more lift than conventional helicopters with the same engine power. The performance of the CoAX 600 is correspondingly high for this reason.

The rotor planes are designed as a teetering configuration, also known as a seasaw rotor. They are characterised by two opposite rotor blades with the same cone angle and a common, central flapping joint. As a result, the joint flapping of the two rotor blades in opposite directions minimises variations in the centre of gravity on the rotor blade orbit and results in lower loads for the rotor blades and rotor mast. This significantly increases the service life of the load-bearing structure.

The autorotation characteristics are also favoured by the coaxial main rotor. Due to the use of 2 x 2 rotor blades, the stored energy content of the main rotor is significantly higher than in comparable conventional helicopters. This extra energy gives the pilot greater room to manoeuvre in autorotation mode. Rotor masts.

Dreiling Maschinenbau GmbH has combined design and manufacturing expertise here.

The result is a rotor system that creates a completely new flying experience when integrated into the CoAX600.

Rotor blades

The rotor blades specially developed for the CoAX 600 are made from modern fibre composite materials at edm aerotec GmbH and are impressively durable.

Power Unit

The UL390iS from ULPower in Belgium offers powerful arguments and a rich sound.

With its 160 hp, it has the optimum power to move the CoAX 600 safely in the air.
